Sound does not work in Hp Vista laptop?

Nancy asks…

No sound from laptop speakers, but there is sound when i plug in headphones?

The laptop is ASUS F3J, Windows Vista, Realtek HD Audio.

I’ve checked all Sound settings in the Control Panel. I’ve tried reinstalling the drivers. I’ve tried updating the drivers. I’ve tried editing the value of ForceDisableJD in Regedit. I’ve tried reformatting the computer and adding a new OS (Vista). Yet, the speakers still doesn’t work.

There is a red light that is always on inside of the headphone jack and when I plug in my headphones, I can everything on my laptop. Youtube, system sounds, everything. When I unplug it, the red light is still there and there isn’t any sound from the speakers. I’ve googled this problem and browsed several forums and pages and I’m still stuck. It’s greatly appreciated if anyone has some insight.

(Note: Hardware fix is a last resort.)

satya s answers:

Try all your control panel setting, look for sound drivers (but that shouldn’t be the problem here). As Daniel said your speakers may be blown or just not working. Take them to a IT specialist for a look.

Your computer may be think8ing headphone are always in, it may be a problem but you could get external speakers that plug into the headphone port. Atleast you would have sound.

Hope that hepled, Brodie

Sound does not work in Hp Vista laptop?

The sound used to work fine. I was able to talk on skype and listen to music.
For some reason my sound just stopped working for no reason.
I have uninstalled the sound driver and re installed it and it says working. when I test the mic it recognizes it but when I play it back I hear no sound.

all has been checked over and over. eg, mute, volume levels etc

I do have a nvida video card and I read on forums that this could be the problem but there was not fix…
has anyone else had this problem and can recommend a fix?

satya s answers:

Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager
and delete the sound device and shut down. Reboot
and you should get the message “new device found” see
if windows can install it from the windows files.
If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually.

If u hav inbuild mic in ur laptop than u hav to increase the mic’s cathing power….
Go to sounds in control panel and in mic tab increse the bar as shown there..
And if it appears that no mic connected than ur lap do not contain any mic which can catch ur voice..!!
In that case u hav to connect a headphone mic or an original mic..

One more thing ,,, as i hav used vista, it dont show any devices in my computer like for taking ur pictures …. U can only take videos….
It also happened with me… So i changed to windows XP….

U will face more problems with Vista… So i recommend u should change ur windows to windows XP…. Its much user friendly… And easy to use..

I have no sound on my laptop. I run with XP and have looked in Sound & Audio Devices in Control Panel.?

I think the sound is ran by SigmaTel?

satya s answers:

Is there a yellow exclamation mark or red x next to the sound card in device manager?

If not, its more than likely you have drivers installed

Try right clicking the entry and make sure its enabled
Make sure your sound isn’t on Mute.

No sound on my sony vaio windows vista laptop?

David asks…

No sound from my laptop ?

Suddenly my Windows Vista laptop will no longer give any sound from video’s I have downloaded to my laptop, from radio stations online, etc. Yesterday it gave good sound on these things, and starting when I booted up today, there is no sound.

satya s answers:

Did your computer automatically install any updates? Go to Control Panel: Windows Update and click “View Update History” on the side to see if any updates were installed that could have changed something on the computer.

If there was something installed, don’t necessarily uninstall the update right away….first try re-installing the sound drivers by going to the Control Panel: System: Device Manager: Sound, video, etc. Then double click on the speakers, go to the “Driver” tab and try to “update driver”.

If there wasn’t anything installed in the updates, check the speakers to make sure everything is working. Go to Control Panel: Sound and it should list your speaker with “working”. You can click on the speaker and click “configure” too, to test the speakers. Also, try (still in Sound) going to Properties to mamke sure that Device Usage is listed as “Use this device (enabled)” and check the levels to make sure that the volume isn’t just turned down (but that’s unlikely if you didn’t manually change it).

I hope that helps.

John asks…

No sound on my sony vaio windows vista laptop? Only works on startup before logging on…?

satya s answers:

You have 2 problems. The first is that you paid WAY too much for a ‘VAIO’, and the second is that you use Vista. No one can help you now.

Helen asks…

Why aren’t any applications other than iTunes able to play sounds on my Acer laptop with Windows Vista?

No applications (firefox, windows media player, GOM player, games, etc.) other than iTunes are able to play sounds. I hear sound when I move the volume bar up and down like normal, but no sounds play in other applications. It was working earlier today, but suddenly stopped. I rebooted, but that didn’t fix the problem.

satya s answers:

Because it’s the only one that works on ur laptop

satya s answers:

Solution 1:
in the far lower right corner of your screen is a small area on the taskbar that is called the system tray. Look for a tiny icon there that looks like a speaker. Double-click the speaker. Click on any box that is checked and labeled mute. Then raise all the slider volume bars by clicking on the slider and not releasing the mouse button and slide the mouse arrow to the top then release the mouse button.

Solution 2:
Visit the support web site for your laptop and download the soundcard driver for your laptop.

Solution 3:
Right-click My Computer and click Properties. Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button. Click the + sign next to the Sound, video and games controller lable. Right click each one under that tree and choose Properties. THen click Driver tab. Then click UPdate Driver button.

Ken asks…

No sound on laptop?

Ive had to install a new hard drive on my laptop and have got no sound now. I need to install the audio drives again, but not sure how to do this. I have googled the make and model, which is a Colossus 8375 AMD Athlon xp-m but can’t find them. Any help would be appreciated.

satya s answers:

Yeah, driver guide always works for me too.

Also, what happened to the recovery disk that came with your laptop? That should have installed the OS and all of the drivers.

If you do use driverguide, run Windows Update to make sure that you have the latest drivers.
